Desk Spaces for Creative People

Something I love about working in a shared desk space is the natural incentive and opportunity for collaboration amongst the other creatives. Therefore it was a no brainer when Chris and Brendan, the guys who keep Shed London ticking over, asked me to make a film that would showcase the breadth and variety of talent who call Shed their (business) home.

Keen not to fake any interaction between the group 'just for filming', we scheduled a genuine ideation workshop in the diary and invited a number of desk users to join us in taking the opportunity to recognise current problems with their businesses and then brainstorm some suitable solutions.

The workshop, hosted by The Pop Up Agency's Abraham Asefaw, solidified current friendships/creative connections as well as spark fresh ones...and all whilst tackling new ideas in a fun and engaging way.

Neon Beyond

Fresh off the block is this fun editorial feature just completed for Hunger Magazine. Loosely inspired by the neon flashes of Tron and deadly chases in Bladerunner our film follows three sci-fi runners as they try to throw, hit and bounce each other into oblivion.

The film was shot overnight at Air Hop trampoline park in Milton Keynes, and by 5am it was certainly a challenge for the girls to keep their energy levels high on camera! They were all fantastic though and kept bouncing through till dawn.

Collaboration with Photographer Lisa Carletta

Back in April I teamed up with contemporary photographer Lisa Carletta for an exciting video commission made by Netherlands based art gallery the Sophie Maree.

The project was a beautiful take on Lisa's first hand experience of moving from Belgium to London and the adventures to be had whilst discovering the city.

Lisa's recognisable style was clearly present when I saw the mood board and it was important to me that I also brought a childlike exploration and surrealist tone to the project. I wanted the film to serve as something that would link each photograph from the series together, fill in the blanks and connect the memories. See the film here.

Lisa exhibition will run from 10.10.15 until the 21.11.15 at the Sophie Maree Gallery.

A Dance With Mia Wallace

I want to dance and I want to win, so dance good
— Mia Wallace, Pulp Fuction

Last Monday I completed a test shoot that's been long in the pre-production stage, a homage to the famous dance scene from Quentin Tarantinos film Pulp Fiction.

The project came about when I met a white haired beauty in the form of Genevieve, a model from London agency Storm Models on a lazy Sunday afternoon back in May. After discussing the idea of re-enacting the scene but with a 'bit of a twist', we started putting pen to paper.

Looking forward to beginning the edit as we'll be working with a sound designer on this one to get the music really on point with the original.

Simpson Makers Shoot

I recently had the pleasure of being brought on board to direct a heritage film for British bespoke leather manufacturers Simpson London.

Their small but perfectly formed factory is nestled within the back streets of Hoxton amongst several other thriving independent businesses and was a joy to be part of for the day. True craftsmanship can be rare to find these days and the experience brought to the job by both the seasoned professionals in their 60's and the younger apprentices was inspirational.

Currently in post-production the film with be featured on Simpson London's new website, soon to launch.

June Round Up

It was a busy old June and sometimes projects pass by in such a blur of frenetic activity that it's nice to take a moment to revisit the recent completions.

Last month saw me working with hair giants ghd for the London launch of their brand new straightener, the Platinum. It was a packed out day with loads of energy and good vibes from the ghd hair team.

Also in the diary was a jam packed 2 day shoot with womenswear brand Wallis for their AW15 collection, a stills shoot at social media company Hootsuite and a shoot up north with award winning photographer Laura Pannack.

Right, off to enjoy the sun now.

A Modernist Dream

This weekend saw myself and my talented photographer friend Chris Baker friend take on a new personal project in the form of a mini doc centered around modernist 1930's architect Wells Coates.

The project came to fruition when a few months ago Chris (a fan of both Wells and modernism) ventured to two of Coates's iconic buildings, the Isokon in Hampstead London and Embassy Court in Brighton, to embark on a beautiful stills project featuring both the buildings and the residents within as the star of the show.

After meeting and shooting some of the colourful characters it was decided that there was more than enough content for a lovely piece of moving image to be made and we set about producing our first short documentary.

Watch this space for the final edited piece.
